Info Pimp

"Libraries are brothels for the mind. Which means that librarians are the madams, greeting punters, understanding their strange tastes and needs, and pimping their books." Guy Browning (The Guardian column, www.guardian.co.uk 18 October 2003)

Fun in the Library.

Oh how wonderful!
We had a possum in the library today.
A bit fat healthy fluffy one.
In the middle of a tense meeting there was a thump and a bump and a scuffling rush.
All the librarians stand to attention in suprise and stare at the bright-eyed face poking around the side of the whiteboard.
We closed the door to stop it getting lost, and made a phone call, and then continued with the meeting. Albiet in more measured tones so as not to startle it too much.
And with only occasional veers in topic to the eavesdropping animal.
The good news is that it was later easily caught and removed back outside.
We've seen this possum many times before around the building (including sleeping in the palm trees with it's baby, aaaw). But this was it's first visit inside.

Also today we had a great couple of hours playing Wii with the after school kids.
I had a sheet they could write their names on to take turns "you know, like when you put your name down the play pool...oh...wups".
Of course, the one parent who is guaranteed to write a complaint letter came in during this time. She even tut tuts about the computers in the library. *shrugs*
So I went into damage control when talking to her. Pointing out it was a treat for the kids. We've no regular times for bringing it out to play on. And we won it, so it wasn't bought with anyones rates $.

In other news; I'm finding it somewhat difficult to crochet an egg cosy.
It shouldn't be that hard. But it's driving me nuts!
That is all.
