a walking, talking day
Spent the day with my Da today, wandering around the city.
Visited the Customs House Library (Sydney City Council).
Was seriously impressed by the way the entry is so open. You don't pass through any security gates until you go into rooms or up levels where the actual collections are. Hence it feels wonderful and welcoming - like a space that actually belongs to the people, rather than the usual sense of coming into the Library's own space.
The decorations and design are good. Modern, funky, but not so much that they may date quickly. Enough different furniture to not be repetitive.
And reasonably accessible - you can actually see that they thought about, and possibly even talked about, people with limited abilities visiting the library!
Having said that, the kids section is incredibly poxy. But that could be a reflection of the usage of this particular branch?

I also bought a pressie for Da to take home to the family. A giant chocolate frog the size of my head! So cool.
I wish I could be there to see my brothers faces when they see it!
We visited the MCA store too, in passing. And looking at all the fantastic stuff, made me feel all inspired to create.
So far I've only succeeded in creating a mess. But hey, to pass on the joy of being inspired; check this site out: http://www.craftster.org/
It makes you want to cut t-shirts up and do things with wire.
*big grin*
